Complex projects prompt architecture firms to form strategic partnerships

In a recent Ottawa Business Journal article, our president Toon Dreessen discusses how the growing trend of partnerships among small and mid-sized architecture firms is largely driven by increasingly restrictive procurement requirements. While collaborations help firms expand their capacity and compete for larger projects, he argues the real solution is procurement reform that gives qualified SMEs a fair opportunity to compete based on design excellence and value rather than firm size or narrowly defined experience. He points to Architects DCA’s success across Canada as evidence that smaller firms can compete effectively when the process is fair.
